Helpful Thai Phrases

Here are some helpful phrases that you might want to learn. Most everyone we meet will speak English. However, it is culturally respectful to learn some Thai…at least to say hello and thank you!

So, let's give it go, shall we? Something to keep in mind when speaking Thai. Unlike with Romance languages where the gender of the recipient is considered, in Thai the self-identified gender of the speaker is what is most important. As a result, if you self-identify as male, add the particle krop at the end of each sentence. If you self-identify as female, add the particle ka at the end of each sentence. Adding krop or ka make what you're saying more polite. If you are gender non-binary, do not use krop or ka. For ease of learning Thai, I have transcribed the sounds of the Thai words into the Latin alphabet.
